An assessment mission conducted by UNICEF in 2011 revealed that 32% of children under the age of five are malnourished, 19% are undernourished, and 5% suffer from severe malnutrition.

First of all, this project aims to meet the needs caused by food shortage through the distribution of food rations. However, the main purpose of this action is to develop the means of production and preservation, which will help maintain long-term food security of vulnerable populations relying on social institutions

The distribution of food rations (rice, soybean, soybean oil, and sugar) benefits to the 29, 474 children present in the 257 local institutions, as well as to the workers involved in various activities and paid on a "Food for Work" basis.

Each institution will be equipped with a cooler to improve preservation systems, and the staff will receive training courses aiming to enhance the post-production conditions for milk and fish.

The rehabilitation of farms' productive infrastructures, soil fertilization through the establishment of catch crops (green manure), the setting-up of biological integrated pest control systems and the control of erosion through the establishment of grassland and shrub hedges will allow the securing of productions and the development of a sustainable agriculture.
