Foreword
Since 1976, the Western Sahara, formerly a Spanish territory, is occupied by Morocco; an occupation much opposed by the Polisario Front*. The right of the Saharawi people to self-determination has been an issue for many years. In 1966, the United Nations agreed to the necessity of a referendum allowing the Saharawi people to decide on the future of their territory; however, such referendum has still not taken place.
In 2000, Triangle performed two exploratory missions in Saharawi refugee camps near Tindouf (Algeria) where almost 160.000 people were living.
In 2001, we launched our programme for Saharawi refugees by supporting the social services working with the disabled. This included building and equipping a home for disabled people. Over 300 disabled children and adults benefited from care, special education, leisure activities and income generating schemes through this program.
