Foreword continued
Triangle G.H. first launched its operations in West Darfur in June 2004 with a programme for displaced people (water, hygiene, distribution of non-food necessities and co-ordination) in Ryad camp, near the town of El Geneina.
Other organisations soon rallied the capital of West Darfur, and Triangle G.H’s teams understood the enormity of needs affecting people in rural areas. Difficult access to villages was further heightened by the insecurity born of the political, economical and ethnical crisis shattering the region.
In 2005, we started distributing farm inputs in villages located north of Geneina. Despite security hazards, these distributions have continued.
In April, Triangle G.H. established a base in Bindizi (Wadi Saleh), a rural area, forgotten by the massive surge of aid that had arrived in Darfur’s main towns and camps. Taking the specificity of the context into consideration, an integrated programme was prepared then implemented for these highly vulnerable people. It included distribution of basic non-food necessities, construction of adequate sanitation facilities, and organisation of food safety activities.
From the programme’s start, considerable this last area of activity raised considerable issues:
In 2006, Triangle G.H. extended its activities to Um Dukhun, situated at the borders of Darfur, Chad and Central African Republic. This is a constantly shifting area requiring regular implementation of emergency structures. At the same time, in Um Dukhun, Triangle G.H. developed food safety activities similar to those organized in Bindizi.
Drawing on its experience and the progress made during operations in rural zones, Triangle G.H. has developed an operational strategy that now allows the NGO to organise the first stages of the post-emergency phase, for certain targeted beneficiaries, while maintaining the aid plan implemented over the years for all beneficiaries of its operations.
Today, Triangle G.H’s work in Darfur focuses on the programmes presented in the “Current Programmes” page.
