Starting on October 16, 2015, and during one week, the Saharawi refugee camps have in turn been affected by severe weather conditions that flooded the camps. Although there were no casualties, dwellings (tents or houses built in clay) were severely damaged and the entire stock of food was destroyed.

A consortium was rapidly set up to ensure coordination among the various NGOs present in the camps and optimize aid according to the needs of affected populations and possible action from each actor. An evaluation was carried out immediately on each camp to establish the list of the most urgent needs to be met. TGH took part in the action through the transportation and distribution of food to the populations.

The current project includes two areas of action.

First step: the reconstruction of housing for 370 vulnerable families living in the camps of Ausserd, Boujdour and Dakhla. This activity will benefit the families with a dependent disabled or elderly person. Standard housing, more weather resistant, will thus be constructed from locally available resources.

Second step: 25 tons of dates will be routed and distributed to the affected populations to supplement their diet. These distributions will be coordinated with local authorities. The choice of dates was made because of their high caloric content, but also because they are available locally.
