- Beneficiaries:
- 655 Sahrawi children
- 61 employees of the education directorates of the 5 wilayas
The challenge of this project is to provide the refugees with assistance and access to essential services to cover their basic needs. The construction works and the rehabilitation of school infrastructures have been progressively organised around the UNICEF call for projects. TGH has been involved in this project since the floods of 2015 and 2016, which severely affected the infrastructure and housing in the area.
During this project, in cooperation with school principals and the Ministries of Cooperation and Social Affairs, TGH will conduct the following activities:
- Construction of a middle school in Smara: School accommodating 600 pupils. The objective is to build eight classrooms, two administration rooms, two laboratories, a library, a teachers' room, a kitchen with canteen and a room for the caretaker.
- Rehabilitation of the specialised education centre in Ausserd: Reception of 36 pupils with disabilities and 12 educators. This rehabilitation project covers an area of 839 m² on the ground. The objective is to replace the roof in order to adapt it to the technical standards of water evacuation, to repair cracks in the walls, to enlarge and raise the level of the courtyard and certain rooms (physiotherapy room), and to repair the sanitary installations.
- Rehabilitation and equipment of a room dedicated to inspectors in each of the five regional directorates of the Ministry of Education: Tends to improve the working conditions of the employees of the Regional Directorates of Education. The needs identified vary according to the wilayas but include, in particular, the extension and rehabilitation of spaces, the installation of sanitary facilities, and the reinforcement of existing structures.
The infrastructure will be adapted to facilitate access for persons with reduced mobility. TGH has already carried out evaluation and sizing missions based on the analysis of its civil engineering technical unit in order to guarantee the sustainability of the facilities.
