Battle for Mosul, by supporting access to formal and informal education. More specifically, the action aims at proposing educational support adapted to the situation of children and their families when facing constraints limiting access to education.
All the activities of this project have in common that they are part of an ongoing IDP return process and that they involve local authorities in order to support the revival of State services in the education sector, the main aim being to stabilize the socio-economic situation of the localities of intervention.
The proposed action is a logical extension of TGH's actions in the IDP camp of Bardarash, and it is also an exit strategy for the NGO: In fact, the district of Bashiqa is the place of origin of the IDPs accompanied by TGH in the framework of the NGO consortium, supported in particular by CDCS. The action therefore proposes to continue guiding the beneficiaries towards their place of origin.
In order to meet these objectives, the TGH teams will implement the following activities:
- Awareness-raising campaigns on education among families and communities through mass events and focus groups. The girls' schooling issue will receive special attention and may lead to home visits for greater impact. TGH will also support the schooling process of families and provide them with the required information.
- Exemption from the requirement of attending non-formal education with a view to supporting reintegration into the formal school system. Refresher courses will be provided to primary school-age children, allowing them to catch-up and consequently to gradually re-integrate the education system. In addition, coordination with formal schools will be established to facilitate the inclusion of beneficiary children in the coming school year.
- Improvement of the learning conditions in schools in targeted localities. As part of this activity, TGH will provide material support to the schools located in the project's localities of intervention, especially in preparation for the winter, in order to offer children and teachers decent learning conditions (heating, minor renovations such as the repair of premises).
- Awareness-raising among families on issues related to Child Protection, Children Rights, and to their access to education (child labour, early marriage, etc.)
- Basic non-formal education (reading, writing, calculations, etc.) for out-of-school adolescents and pre-adolescents. TGH will offer courses with timetables adapted to the constraints related to the professional activities that adolescents must maintain in order to contribute to household expenses.
- Financial support for the individual projects of adolescents considering vocational training. TGH will identify young people who have a professional project but are faced with financial and organizational difficulties preventing them from taking a qualification course. A personal follow-up will be carried out with these young people in order to define their project and its feasibility. This support may consist in the payment of transport costs to the place of training, the covering of the cost of materials and equipment required for the training, the compensation for the "loss of income" caused by the interruption of a paid activity, or the financing of a starter kit at the end of the training course.
- Psychosocial support for adolescent children and their families via mobile teams who will identify the children most at risk and refer them to specialized structures.
- Training of teachers in psychosocial support and in the identification of vulnerable children. TGH will organize training sessions on Child Protection for the staff of the targeted schools, in order to provide them with the basic knowledge related to this field and to enable them to integrate these aspects in their pedagogy.
