Massive displacements of populations from Syria and Iraq towards Iraqi Kurdistan put great pressure on the quality of services provided by national institutions. Subsequently, these needed the support of both local and international NGOs. Child protection and education were particularly affected by these large scale events, and although DoSA/MoLSA and local NGOs were involved in the response, national child protection systems still need to be strengthened.

The current programme aims to improve practices, mechanisms and tools for the protection and well-being of children, with a view to sustainably improving case management services for children and adolescents affected by the conflict in Iraqi Kurdistan. As part of the proposed activities, TGH will continue to support the DoSA/MoLSA in their efforts to reach all communities affected by the conflict.

TGH will pay particular attention to the organisational strengthening of the DoSA, firstly by developing a more appropriate staff organisation, focusing on child protection activities, strengthening internal rules, setting up an appropriate toolbox (reference terms, code of conduct, etc.), and finally by integrating the best interests of the child into the DoSA work process.

TGH will also work on the many training courses provided to social workers belonging to DoSA and to local NGOs:

These training courses will be complemented by support in the workplace to strengthen the case management capacities of DoSA's social workers on a sustainable basis.

At the end of the programme, a participatory organisational diagnosis will again be carried out in order to measure progress and improvements, as well as future working areas.
