FUNDING
By improving the overall health status of livestock, TGH is addressing urgent needs in terms of food security and livelihoods.
Based on the experience gained from the mobile veterinary clinic set up in 2016-2017 in the sub-district of Rabia, two new mobile clinics will focus on the district of Tilkaif, primarily on areas with the lowest livelihoods, highly dependent on livestock and where private access to medicines seems the most difficult.
A free livestock treatment service will be set up, as well as mobile units that will go to the various villages in the area to provide the necessary care to the animals and advice to vulnerable livestock farmers. The veterinary team will also focus on informing beneficiaries about the treatments provided, and on awareness messages concerning the detection of precursor symptoms for the most common diseases. Farmers will also be encouraged to innovate in terms of animal feed to improve productivity.
In order to improve the sustainability of this action, TGH will involve students from the Veterinary University of Dohuk who lack practical experience during their training and who will be able to assist the TGH teams, under their authority and that of their teachers who will supervise them. The students will also contribute to the drafting of a brochure on good practices for livestock farmers
