This project is a continuation of the work already carried out by TGH in Nepal, as it co-finances a programme currently underway, funded by the Fondation de France and the Agence Française de Développement. It is an Integrated Global Reconstruction Programme (IGRP3) implemented in 4 villages (Thangpaldhap, Thangpalkot, Gunsakot and Bothang) of the Sindhupalchok district, located in the Panchpokari Thangpal Valley.

IGRP3 is the third phase of a project that started in 2015 following the earthquakes that struck Nepal in April and May 2015. The emergency (IGRP1) and post-emergency (IGRP2) phases helped the inhabitants of Sindhupalchok district to at least regain the standard of living they had before the 2015 earthquakes. The development phase (IGRP3) aims to support the economic development of the intervention area through the revival of economic activities through the distribution of means of production and support in technical training and the promotion of more resilient livelihoods. However, in terms of access to water, sanitation and hygiene infrastructures, not all the needs are covered.

To meet these needs, TGH has designed a Water, Hygiene and Sanitation project which aims to extend and make sustainable access to drinking water, hygiene and sanitation through three areas of intervention.

A first axis which aims to improve and facilitate access to water and sanitation infrastructures with the renovation and/or construction of  improved water networks, the renovation and/or construction of public toilets in public places and schools, the construction of a public sanitary space dedicated to women, the construction of septic tanks, the construction of sanitation infrastructures, the training and support of management committees, and the organization of campaigns to promote good hygiene practices.

A second axis which aims to maintain clean community spaces in order to promote respect for the environment through the development of a waste sorting and recycling space in each village, material support for the collection, transport and sorting of waste, technical support for the organization of the collection, transports and treatment of household waste, the setting up of a system for the incineration of non-recyclable waste, and the organization of awareness campaigns on household waste management.

A third axis which aims to promote access to environmentally friendly green energy through material support for the construction of community and domestic biogas, technical support for the construction and maintenance of biogas digesters, and the organization of awareness campaigns on renewable energies.

Ultimately, this WASH project intends to have a positive and sustainable impact on the quality of water resources, reduce the risks of organic pollution and contribute to the preservation of natural resources.
