More than 15 years after the outbreak of the conflict, the humanitarian situation in Darfur is still worrying, characterized by a complex, protracted and forgotten crisis. The combined effects of political instability and a lack of integration of the area by the former Sudanese regime keep the region in a situation of marginalization where frequent population displacements occur. The severe economic crisis affecting the Sudan since 2018 has increased the precariousness of already vulnerable populations. The number of people in need in Sudan, 9.3 million according to the Humanitarian Response Plan, has been steadily increasing over the last five years.

El Geneina, the capital of West Darfur State, suffered a series of intercommunal violence between Masslite and Arab tribes in late 2019, resulting in the displacement of several thousand people. In addition, people from the Central African Republic (RCA) fleeing clashes in the Birao region have recently found refuge in Um Dukhun, in Central Darfur.

The intervention proposed by TGH aims to respond directly to the most urgent humanitarian needs caused by the displacement of these populations, both in El Geneina and Um Dukhun.
