Programme details
In accordance with the principle of ‘Do no harm’ and in response to the pressure exerted by the Sudanese crisis on the region, the project targets both refugees and host communities affected by the Darfur conflict, ensuring equitable distribution of aid. Furthermore, the Action is aligned with the Humanitarian Response Plan for Chad 2025 by integrating an approach that combines emergency humanitarian response and development initiatives, in line with the ‘Emergency Development Response’ strategy. This approach aims to respond to immediate needs while addressing structural vulnerabilities.
In education, the project aims to support existing services to accommodate forcibly displaced children and children from the host community in safe, protective and appropriate learning environments. TGH first seeks to address the lack of schooling for children by setting up temporary learning spaces and raising community awareness of the importance of education. Learning spaces will be built in Koursigué, in response to the lack of education coverage. The project is therefore geographically complementary to the actions of the UNHCR and the TGH project soon to be supported by DG ECHO, mentioned above. To address overcrowded classrooms and material shortcomings in the existing education system, the project aims to strengthen teacher capacity and recruitment by distributing teaching kits to teaching teams.
In terms of protection, the project aims to strengthen the environment for children against abuse and protection risks within communities. In response to the mental and psychosocial disorders caused by the trauma experienced by the population, the project implements psychosocial support and recreational activities. The project plans to set up child-friendly spaces to address the lack of reception facilities for orphaned or unaccompanied children in the Milé extension camp. Finally, TGH plans to establish and train community child protection networks in response to concerns identified by UNHCR regarding family separation, children’s school dropout rates and the presence of child-headed households.
The response strategy chosen by TGH and agreed with the SIF takes into account not only the NGO’s expertise but also the lessons learned since 2023 in carrying out actions in response to the Sudanese crisis and the needs of people forcibly displaced as a result of this crisis.
