Syria is facing an escalation of armed violence and confrontations.
In recent months, the crisis has forced more than 36,000 people to flee Al-Sweida Governorate and seek refuge in different areas of Daraa Governorate.
In the city of Busra al-Sham, displaced people gathered in public buildings, such as schools, which were converted into collective shelters. Access to basic services was limited in these shelters. Hygiene items were scarce, and the sanitation facilities were inadequate for the number of arrivals.
In response to this situation, the TGH team in Syria mobilised to support around 100 families in the area by providing them with:
- Essential hygiene items and menstrual hygiene items,
- Tanks for storing water from the public water network in Busra Esh-sham, rehabilitated by TGH.
- Cleaning supplies for reception centres,
- Hygiene promotion sessions for families.
With support from the Syria Humanitarian Fund (SHF), this intervention focused on improving hygiene practices, helping to prevent the spread of infectious diseases such as diarrhoea, cholera, and other waterborne illnesses.

Elsewhere, in eastern Maliha-Izraa, the school supported by TGH and converted into a collective shelter hosted play and listening sessions. Although some educational activities had to be suspended, TGH teams organised psychosocial support sessions to help displaced children express their emotions, talk about violence, and rebuild a sense of community and trust.
These actions were carried out as part of a project to improve access to education, supported by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).
Despite the turmoil facing the country, TGH continues to support the Syrian people and help create decent living conditions for those who have been displaced.
