As part of its intervention to improve the basic needs of vulnerable populations in the Central African Republic, TGH established in 2024, with the support of the European Union, a child protection project in the city of Birao, located in the Vakaga prefecture, as well as along the surrounding roads.

In collaboration with RECOPE (Community-based Child Protection Networks), several actions were then carried out as part of the protection activities. A child protection risk mitigation plan has been jointly developed, with the aim of improving the monitoring mechanisms used for the protection of children at the community level.

Playing a key role in community dynamics, capacity building for RECOPE members was also organized, in collaboration with some members of APE (Associations des Parents d’Élèves). Thus, in 2025, 125 people, including 50 members of RECOPE, 50 members of APE and 25 young people from the Birao club, have been trained on their mandate, the fundamental principles of child protection, the referral system, as well as communication techniques aimed at promoting positive change in behavior. They have also been provided with equipment essential to the effective exercise of their missions.

To this date, 11 targeted communities have an active community network, responsible for monitoring and reporting cases of child abuse, and conducting awareness-raising campaigns among parents on children’s rights and the prevention of sexual and gender-based violence.
