War in Sudan: support for internally displaced peoples from Tawila

The war is still raging in Sudan.

One of the most severe and forgotten humanitarian crises of our time is currently being experienced by the country.

Following serious violence in the El Fasher region, thousands of people sought refuge in Tawila town. This influx has put considerable pressure on the fragile reception infrastructure. Overcrowding in the camps has severely limited access to vital resources, including water, sanitation and healthcare.

These conditions directly led to a cholera epidemic being declared in June 2025. This further increased the risks faced by the most vulnerable populations and emphasised the urgent need for humanitarian intervention to stabilise the situation.

TGH teams have mobilised in Tawila to respond to the needs of the population. They are implementing protection activities for children affected by the conflict. In August 2025, our child protection team conducted group psychosocial support (PSS) activities for children in Tawila, providing them with a safe space to recover, play and regain their emotional well-being.

In response to the recent cholera outbreak, TGH’s Water, Sanitation and Hygiene team and hygiene promoters are currently implementing hygiene promotion activities in the Tal Omda camp in Tawila. These activities aim to raise awareness among displaced persons about how to prevent cholera.

Every act of support is a step towards rebuilding these people’s daily lives. Our teams remain mobilised.
