The siege of El Fasher ended after more than 500 days of fighting.
This extremely violent event was the latest dramatic episode in the war that has ravaged Sudan since April 2023. It resulted in massive atrocities and the flight of tens of thousands of people seeking refuge, according to the OCHA.
The TGH team in Sudan mobilised to provide adequate protection for these people and urgently respond to the needs of those displaced and now living in the Souq Al Khadar camp. Non-food item kits were distributed to around 2,500 people, primarily households.
In this extremely challenging environment, our team is building on existing operations, such as water distribution by truck or via flexible tanks, as well as providing psychosocial support for children.
Despite the fighting in El Fasher having ceased, the situation in Darfur remains catastrophic for the population. In response, TGH is preparing its next interventions for displaced persons and plans to:
- Strengthen the registration and support of individuals, particularly unaccompanied children.
- Deploy mobile spaces to provide psychosocial support to children and adolescents experiencing emotional distress.
- Organise the distribution of hygiene kits and awareness-raising sessions to reduce the risk of waterborne diseases in camps.
- Continue water distribution operations.
These emergency operations are organised with the support of all of TGH’s national operational partners, as well as the backing of several institutional partners, including the European Union, the Humanitarian Fund for Sudan, the US and the French Initiative for Food Security and Nutrition (IFSAN).
