In Iraq, with the support of ECHO and in partnership with TdH Italy, TGH has been running a non-formal education and child protection project since March 2024. The teams provide specialised services for at-risk, working, abused and out-of-school children, while building the capacity of teachers and social workers in Shirqat, Salah Al-Din.
A number of activities have been carried out since the project began:
- Creation of 2 community centres for protection and non-formal education;
- Raising awareness of children's rights and education;
- Identification and management of cases of children at risk in Shirqat, with referral to specialist services;
- Identifying and registering children and parents for psychosocial support and parenting skills programmes;
- Organisation of psychosocial support sessions for children;
- Coordination with public services and NGOs to identify children not attending school and provide them with support.
