In January 2024, thanks to the support of the Agence Française de Développement (AFD) and as part of the 𝐏𝐄𝐑𝐌𝐀 𝐈𝐈 project, TGH, in partnership with Mercy Corps and the NGO PAO, supported 𝟒𝟕 𝐚𝐠𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐞𝐮𝐫𝐬 (44 men and 3 women) from the villages of Al Sallamiyah and Bashiqa, in the governorate of Ninewa, to adopt alternative irrigation techniques.
Implemented in conjunction with the Directorate of Water Resources and the Directorate of Agriculture of the governorate of Ninewa, this activity aims to :
- Reducing water wastage
- Improving optimum management of water resources
- Encouraging the creation of water user associations
Thanks to the support provided to local farmers and the adoption of appropriate techniques, water wastage has been considerably reduced. Farmers now have better connections with local markets, enabling them to get more out of their produce.
Finally, these activities have contributed to a significant increase in farmers’ incomes, improving their living conditions and supporting the local economy.
