In southern Iraq, TGH is working to combat desertification and the effects of climate change in rural areas. The organisation recently collaborated with the community of Muthanna on a tree-planting campaign.
This eco-friendly initiative brought together 52 people from the local community, including government officials, youth groups and NGOs. Together, they planted trees in public spaces.
To facilitate tree maintenance, educational materials and gardening tools were also distributed. Training in proper plant care was also provided.
This initiative is also intended to strengthen the bonds between all members of the community.
Participants praised this tree-planting campaign, which highlighted the need for more environmental action and climate awareness.
To ensure the long-term success of this initiative, the TGH team in Iraq is working to strengthen the resilience of communities in southern Iraq. As well as tackling the effects of climate change, the project is strengthening livelihoods, agriculture and protection, with a particular focus on children.
