GROW-Pak: Empowering Women and Young Farmers in Gilgit-Baltistan

TGH strengthens agricultural skills and promotes women’s inclusion in the face of climate challenges in the northern valleys of Pakistan.

The agricultural system in Pakistan relies heavily on small-scale farmers who struggle to access the resources needed to modernize and secure their livelihoods, particularly women and young people. This structural vulnerability makes them all the more exposed to climate-related risks, the increasing frequency of which threatens their livelihoods.

The GROW-Pak (Generating Resilient Opportunities for Women and Young People in Agriculture in Pakistan) project, supported by Agence Française de Développement (AFD) and implemented by Triangle Génération Humanitaire (TGH) in partnership with the NGO Agribusiness Support Fund (ASF), promotes women’s economic empowerment across 𝐬𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐭𝐬 of Gilgit-Baltistan region targeting 𝟑,𝟖𝟎𝟎 𝐰𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐬 by organizing them in farmers cooperatives.

On the ground, this translates into concrete actions. As spring begins in Upper Hunza Valley, women farmers are stepping into new roles and breaking traditional barriers. On 08 April 2026, TGH’s implementing partner, Agri Business Support Fund (ASF) organized a hands-on training on pruning, budding, and grafting for the “Gulkin Women Farmers Agribusiness Society” in Gojal, Hunza.

Long considered men’s work, these techniques are now in the hands of 𝟐𝟎 𝐰𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧 𝐟𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐬, who are building skills and reshaping their place in local agricultural life across Gilgit-Baltistan.
