Water, Sanitation and Cyclone Resilience: Rehabilitation and Community Mobilisation

The activities focus on the rehabilitation and strengthening of water, sanitation, and community resilience infrastructure in the Fokontany of Ivondro-Tapakala within the Commune of Amboditandroroho. They include the cyclone-resilient rehabilitation of the building housing the reverse osmosis plant, replacing the existing sheet metal roof with a reinforced concrete roof, and the construction of a 4 m³ reinforced concrete storage tank to ensure water storage, secure the water supply, and enable remineralisation. The project also includes the solarisation of the entire water pumping, treatment and distribution system through the installation of removable solar panels that can be rapidly dismantled and safely stored in the event of a cyclone warning. The activities further include the rehabilitation of two school latrine blocks with cyclone-resilient reinforcement, the emptying, cleaning and disinfection of the associated pits, as well as the provision of material support to 50 vulnerable households to enable the participatory repair of their household latrines.
