Combating HIV in Sahrawi refugee camps

Since 2001, TGH has supported the populations of Sahrawi refugee camps.

In partnership with UNHCR, the interventions aim to improve living conditions and strengthen local resilience. To meet the specific needs of camp residents, TGH has developed numerous initiatives to promote better access to healthcare and to develop effective disease prevention practices, especially with regard to HIV.

Recently, our team organised a training course on HIV testing and diagnosis. This session was dedicated to laboratory technicians from hospitals located in various Sahrawi refugee camps. The training aimed to strengthen their technical skills and ensure harmonised practices for better patient care, balancing theory and practice.

Dr Borhan Bensaoula, a doctor and health project manager at TGH, led the theoretical part of the course. He focused on conveying an in-depth understanding of the virus and its modes of transmission.
