Hand washing: an essential action
This measure reduces the risk of contracting respiratory and diarrhoeal diseases — the leading causes of infant mortality and infection spread worldwide — by 25 to 50%.
In contexts such as the war in Sudan, where host communities and displaced persons are destitute, raising awareness of and promoting this essential practice is imperative for improving health outcomes for all.

To mark Global Handwashing Day on 15 October 2025, TGH organised a soap distribution event, followed by practical demonstrations focusing on the five key moments of daily hygiene :
- Before eating.
- Before preparing food.
- After using the toilet.
- After changing a baby's nappy or helping them with their personal hygiene..
- Before breastfeeding
With the support of the European Union and the participation of local authorities in Tawila and humanitarian organisations – including Solidarités International – present on site, this event brought together nearly 2,600 people, most of whom are internally displaced persons.
