Iraq: supporting children’s education in the face of internal displacement

In times of uncertainty, it is essential to provide targeted support to overcome obstacles that hinder children's access to education and well-being.

In Iraq, many families struggle to access protection and education services due to internal displacement. Consequently, a significant proportion of children are unable to continue their education.

In response to this situation, TGH has been working in Iraq since October to help children return to school. To support this initiative, our team has organised several distributions of school supplies for children and their families.

Last December, TGH’s case management team continued to provide vital support to vulnerable children, helping them to overcome barriers to safety, education, and well-being. Thanks to targeted financial assistance, 15 disabled children and their families were able to obtain mobility aids, including wheelchairs. This has enabled them to participate fully in school life and daily activities.

Our team has also played an active role in initiatives relating to child protection and administrative support. We have also contributed to efforts to reduce school dropout rates and provide mental health support.

TGH ensures that children and their families receive the help they need to stay safe, access essential services and build a better future in an uncertain regional context by assessing each case, providing follow-up support and developing tailored support plans.

These activities were made possible thanks to the support of DG ECHO, the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations.
