Programme details

Entitled ‘Improving living conditions and hygiene for people with special needs in Sahrawi refugee camps’, this project aims to address a significant humanitarian crisis affecting the most vulnerable individuals in the Tindouf camps in Algeria, namely children with cerebral palsy (CP) and bedridden adults.

Against a backdrop of reduced international funding, these individuals suffer serious health and social consequences, including a lack of nappies, inadequate hygiene and insufficient physiotherapy care

Implemented in partnership with the Sahrawi authorities responsible for social assistance and the empowerment of women, the project seeks to restore basic standards of dignity, hygiene and comfort by:

  • A one-off distribution of nappies and hygiene kits for 297 children with cerebral palsy;
  • A home physiotherapy programme and the provision of hygiene kits for 769 bedridden adults.
  • Technical and medical monitoring will be carried out jointly by TGH teams and local partner authorities.

Support actions are carried out in the five wilayas of the camps (Laayoune, Smara, Boujdour, Aousserd and Dakhla). These actions help to restore comfort, access to healthcare, and dignity for the most marginalised people
