Located close to East Mosul, the Hamdaniya district has borne the brunt of the conflicts between the Islamic State and the coalition comprising the Iraqi army, the Kurdish peshmerga and the Western powers.

TGH is working with the Iraqi Agricultural Bank (ABI) to boost economic activity. 200 loans and around fifty financing mechanisms will be set up at Community level, facilitating access to financial and non-financial services for men and women entrepreneurs in the agricultural sector and the local economy.

TGH is also helping to rehabilitate infrastructure linked to local agricultural activities (re-establishment of irrigation schemes, development and promotion of efficient water management techniques), and to improve the health and growth of livestock (mobile veterinary services, rehabilitation of local animal care facilities).

Lastly, TGH contributes to social cohesion by strengthening economic interactions within and outside the community, restructuring community groups that are representative in terms of gender and age, and building on traditional structures. These groups form a solid basis for improving managerial and technical skills, particularly among women and young people, whose role in the world of agriculture is fundamental but often undervalued.
