This project was designed in response to the crisis in Paletwa Township in Chin State, on the border with Arakan, resulting from the ongoing and escalating conflict between the Myanmar Army (Tatmadaw) and the Arakanese Army. In addition, the situation has deteriorated as a result of the widespread lack of services and infrastructure in the region, the high level of vulnerability of its population and the growing ethnic tensions that are undermining local social cohesion.

Triangle Génération Humanitaire (TGH), in partnership with Raiki Community Development Foundation, a civil society organisation in Paletwa, is providing multi-sectoral assistance to displaced people and host communities suffering the consequences of clashes between the Myanmar army and the Arakan army. This action responds to the most urgent needs of displaced people while trying to alleviate the pressure on host communities and helps to strengthen their resilience in the face of the prolonged conflict affecting the region.

This project provides humanitarian aid to 14,211 displaced people and host communities in the canton of Paletwa, while strengthening local resilience. It follows on from an initial project, launched in January 2019 and supported by the Myanmar Humanitarian Fund (OCHA), and complements it in terms of both activities, notably by including a water access component. As a result, IDPs and host communities in Paletwa Township are better able to respond to the emergency situation they face, both in the short and long term.

This project includes a major capacity-building component aimed at consolidating the technical and operational skills of local partners. IDPs and host communities in the target villages, as well as local civil society organisations, will benefit from the project.
