The massive influx of Sudanese refugees in Ennedi East is increasing the needs for water, sanitation, and hygiene among displaced populations and host communities.
In eastern Chad, the Ennedi province is bearing the consequences of the conflict in Sudan. Around 56,000 Sudanese refugees have sought refuge in the region, more than 46,800 of whom are settled in the Ourรฉ Cassoni site, according to the UNHCRโs data from June 2025. This massive influx, coupled with the presence of Chadian returnees, is placing severe strain on basic services, which are already operating at full capacity.
In response to this current crisis, the project โEmergency Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) response for the communities most affected by forced displacement in the Ennedi East Prefectureโ, implemented by TGH and supported by ๐๐ก๐ ๐๐๐ ๐ข๐จ๐ง๐๐ฅ ๐๐ฎ๐ฆ๐๐ง๐ข๐ญ๐๐ซ๐ข๐๐ง ๐ ๐ฎ๐ง๐ ๐๐จ๐ซ ๐๐๐ฌ๐ญ ๐๐ง๐ ๐๐๐ง๐ญ๐ซ๐๐ฅ ๐๐๐ซ๐ข๐๐ (๐ ๐๐๐๐๐), extends the water supply infrastructure in order to ultimately enable ๐ฏ๐ฌ,๐ฌ๐ฌ๐ฌ ๐ฝ๐ฒ๐ผ๐ฝ๐น๐ฒ to access safe drinking water.

On the ground, TGH supplies drinking water in accordance with humanitarian standards. Currently, three 20 mยณ water tankers make ๐ฏ ๐๐ฟ๐ถ๐ฝ๐ ๐ฝ๐ฒ๐ฟ ๐ฑ๐ฎ๐, providing ๐ณ. TGH also operates two motorized tricycles that make three daily rounds, delivering ๐ฒ๐ฌ๐ฌ ๐น๐ถ๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ ๐ผ๐ณ ๐๐ฎ๐๐ฒ๐ฟ ๐ฝ๐ฒ๐ฟ ๐ฑ๐ฎ๐ directly to the homes of people with reduced mobility.
In parallel, TGH sustainably reinforces the drinking water supply system by drilling boreholes and installing water networks, storage tanks and standpipes. Meanwhile, its national partner ADHESCO is building ๐ญ๐ด๐ฌ ๐ต๐ผ๐๐๐ฒ๐ต๐ผ๐น๐ฑ ๐น๐ฎ๐๐ฟ๐ถ๐ป๐ฒ๐ ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐๐ต๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ฑ ๐๐ต๐ผ๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐, thereby helping to reduce health risks and restore dignity to the affected communities.
