World Environment Day in Chad

Raising awareness, taking action and mobilising communities: a collective initiative to promote health and protect the environment.

On the occasion of World Environment Day, the teams from Triangle Génération Humanitaire and the National Commission for the Reception and Reintegration of Refugees and Returnees (CNARR) organized an awareness-raising and waste collection campaign on 4 June at the Marasabré refugee site.

During the awareness sessions, participants highlighted the importance of maintaining a clean environment to protect everyone’s health. Plastic waste, organic waste, and other litter found in certain areas of the camp are a daily concern for many families. This activity helped raise community awareness while providing a practical response to these challenges.

Following the awareness sessions, women, men, and children joined our teams in cleaning different areas of the site. The residents’ participation and enthusiasm were remarkable throughout the day, reflecting a strong collective commitment to improving their living environment.

Beyond the clean-up itself, this initiative created an opportunity to foster dialogue on environmental protection and hygiene within the camp. Many participants expressed their willingness to continue these efforts by forming community committees to ensure the sustainable management of waste and the upkeep of their environment.

A collective effort bringing hope for a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable living environment.
