Access to healthcare: a critical issue in Sahrawi refugee camps.

Access to healthcare remains a significant challenge in the Sahrawi refugee camps in Tindouf.

For several years, healthcare facilities suffered from a lack of equipment and severely dilapidated buildings.

In response to this situation and to improve access to care for refugee populations, in 2025 TGH participated in the construction and equipping of an emergency department at the Aousserd camp hospital, supported by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. This initiative resulted in the construction of a modernised emergency department designed to improve patient reception, care and hospitalisation.

Throughout 2026, support for the hospital continued with the provision of furniture and medical equipment, making the facility fully operational.

The TGH team delivered various medical equipment and supplies, including hospital beds, examination tables, stretchers, medical carts, air conditioners and partitions, on site.

This effort ultimately helped to strengthen the capacity of the healthcare system in the Tindouf camps and improve patient care conditions at the Aousserd camp.
