In March 2020, Triangle Génération Humanitaire (TGH) launched this 25-month project, funded by the French Crisis and Support Centre, to provide assistance to vulnerable people, including the elderly and people with disabilities, in remote villages along the Line of Contact not covered by the government's social protection scheme.

Through this project, TGH provides home-based care to the elderly and people with disabilities during the difficult months of autumn, winter and early spring. This home-based care is provided by other vulnerable members of the community through a cash-for-work activity.

To strengthen the resilience of the project's beneficiaries whose food and hygiene security levels drop during the winter months, e-vouchers for food and hygiene products are provided to them during the critical periods of the year. The innovative e-voucher modality implemented by TGH, based on the use of mobile phones and virtual money, makes it possible to reach remote locations along the contact line, often not covered by humanitarian aid projects. This approach is appropriate and comfortable for beneficiaries, is cost-effective and allows for continuous monitoring and informed programmatic decision-making.

With the arrival of the COVID-19 crisis, TGH adapted its action by taking into account the modalities of the health context (respect for the measures in place, limit on the people gathering, etc.). In addition, this project also allows TGH to respond in the long term to the needs of vulnerable people, who are even more affected by the global pandemic.

Importantly, the partnership between TGH and local shops participating in the distributions of e-vouchers contributes to strengthening small and medium-scale local businesses and strengthening community links between local businesses and communities.
