Ba'aj and Hatra districts have been identified as some of locations hosting the most IDP returns and secondary displacement locations prompted by sudden unexpected camp closures. These districts are among the locations where the majority of the households that have arrived from camps are recorded as living in critical shelters affecting their resilience and well-being. COVID-19 pandemic is increasing child protection risks such as psychological trauma, stress and anxiety, child labor, abuse, neglect and child marriage. Therefore, TGH facilitates access to protection services adapted to children through dedicated mobile units to address the emergency protection needs.

TGH identifies children at risk and provide case management support including referral to specialized protection services, through adapted and remote modalities to respect virus prevention measures.

Moreover, TGH delivers psychosocial support at household or community level, to all vulnerable and departure-affected children and their caregivers. Psychosocial activities, notably in formal schools, are implemented when possible, based on age, gender and specific needs, as well as life skills activities sessions dedicated to adolescent girls. These interventions aim to develop children’s self-confidence, resilience and encourage familial and social interactions. Sessions on child protection issues with parents and caregivers are organized to ensure a greater impact and sustainability of the action.

In addition, child-friendly awareness-raising activities are implemented at community level through group sessions, door-to-door information sharing, and large events (when security protocols allows it).

Awareness raising activities on COVID-19 and hygiene are also conducted to sensitize people on important public health measures such as wearing masks at all times, maintaining physical distancing, and washing hands. The intervention is focusing on behavior change to avoid the rapid spread of the COVID-19 virus.
