Aware of the importance of children’s rights, TGH has placed this issue at the heart of its actions since it was founded in 1994, working for a future where every child can grow up in dignity and security.
In the Central African Republic, TGH is working to improve the basic needs of vulnerable populations, particularly children, through a child protection programme in the Vakaga Prefecture.
To achieve this, TGH teams have set up ‘Child Friendly Spaces’ (CFS), temporary structures created in crisis contexts to guarantee children a safe, inclusive environment adapted to their needs. In Birao, with the support of ECHO, TGH has set up three operational CFSs, welcoming nearly 𝟭,𝟭𝟬𝟬 children aged between 3 and 17 every week.
Within these Child-Friendly Spaces, TGH teams offer several activities:
- Educational and recreational: learning in a recreational environment.
- Culture and sport: promoting social links and cohesion between children.
- Awareness-raising: particularly on hygiene, inclusion and the prevention of gender-based violence (GBV).
These spaces and activities help to protect vulnerable children from the risks of violence and exploitation, provide psychosocial support through appropriate activities and strengthen social cohesion between communities.
Every day, through projects like this one, TGH and its teams take action to protect children and defend their fundamental rights.
