Programme details
This water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), social and behavioural change, and protection improvement project addresses the needs of Sudanese refugee populations in the Korsi neighbourhood of Birao, in the Vakaga prefecture.
The sharp increase in the refugee population, reaching 26,726 people, has placed significant pressure on existing infrastructure. Water supply stands at just 9 litres per person per day, compared to the humanitarian standard of 15 litres. Furthermore, fewer than 36% of refugees have access to functional latrines.
Triangle Génération Humanitaire is intervening across three complementary areas:
Access to safe drinking water: Rehabilitating and expanding water facilities through solar-powered pumps, recommissioning existing wells, and constructing a new water supply system. Water points will be protected and maintained by local committees.
Hygiene and sanitation: Supporting the residents of Korsi to improve toilet usage, hygiene, and overall cleanliness in the neighbourhood, notably through community-led initiatives.
Social change and child protection: Strengthening resident participation and child protection through awareness-raising campaigns, mechanisms to collect feedback and concerns, tailored support for vulnerable children, and dedicated safe spaces.
