As the conflict in Ukraine enters its fifth year, humanitarian needs remain significant, particularly in areas close to the front line and in hard-to-reach locations. Bombardments and attacks on infrastructure continue to cause displacement, destroy homes and disrupt access to water, electricity, heating and essential services.
The oblasts of Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia are among the areas most severely affected. They also host large numbers of internally displaced people, while security conditions and forced displacement remain major concerns.
In response to these needs, an integrated Protection, Shelter and Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) response aims to address the essential needs of conflict-affected populations while strengthening their safety and resilience. To this end, TGH is implementing measures to strengthen protection mechanisms, making them more inclusive and community-based.
These actions aim to improve the prevention of and response to risks, including gender-based violence, while promoting psychosocial well-being and community resilience. Access to safe, dignified and adequately heated housing is supported through essential home repairs and targeted assistance for winter preparedness. Finally, through the rehabilitation of light infrastructure and the promotion of hygiene, TGH restores and maintains access to safe drinking water, heating and sanitation in semi-urban communities.
These activities are supported by the Crisis and Support Center (CDCS) of the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs.
