Programme details

This project aims to improve the nutritional status, food security, and resilience of both host communities and newly displaced households in Martal (North Darfur) and Foro Baranga (West Darfur). It is supported by the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs through the French Initiative for Food Security and Nutrition (IFSAN).

The intervention supports these vulnerable populations by enhancing access to food, promoting dietary diversification, and fostering nutrition-sensitive practices. In addition, it provides targeted households with income-generating and food production opportunities, such as backyard gardening or poultry farming.

This dual approach addresses both immediate needs and longer-term resilience, equipping affected communities with the tools and knowledge to better withstand future shocks and potential crises.

The intervention focuses on the most at-risk groups: pregnant and lactating women (PLW) and children between 0 and 23 months of age, recognizing the central role of women in families’ nutrition, the critical “1.000 first days” of life in the children’s development, as well as the heightened vulnerability to malnutrition and mortality of these specific groups. Special emphasis is placed on female-headed households, which represent an important portion of the population and whose empowerment is critical to ensuring broader household food security.

In total, this project supports:

  • Directly: 560 households, or 3,080 people
  • Indirectly: 6,062 households, or 33,341 people
